Sarstedt is a town in Lower Saxony 20km south of Hannover.
Population of approximately 20,000
The local council have 16 sewage pumping stations within their sewage works department of which 14 are Strate units, looked after by Mr Winter of the municipality.
The Strate units have a low frequency of servicing needs and Mr Winter says each unit only requires one annual service, although they are visited frequently to monitor their performance. Each station is also linked via SMS for alarm purposes.
The largest unit Sarstedt run is housed in what looks like a brick-built garage, next to a small housing complex.
From outside the pump station there is no noise, and due to the sealed characteristic of Strate units, absolutely no odour, either inside or outside.

Although installed, as you can see above, in 1999, the pictures below show that the site is spotless and has none of the usual signs of wear and deterioration so often seen on a sewage pumping station. It is literally clean enough to eat your lunch off.
